In the competition organized under the leadership of TURKCELL, teams will develop AI-powered models that can make the most accurate location predictions using radio network performance metrics and GPS data from the existing 5G test network. The teams will try to find target locations along a designated campus route through both algorithms and physical exploration.

14 Finalists Out of 343 Teams
In 2025, a total of 343 teams and 1,170 students from 76 different universities applied to the competition, held for the first time. After a meticulous pre-evaluation process, 14 teams and 66 finalist students earned the right to compete in the grand final. The finalists bring the competition to an international scale by participating from different cities in Turkey as well as from Indonesia.

Young Minds to Compete in Istanbul
The final process will take place on August 9-10, 2025, hosted by Istanbul Technical University's Ayazağa Campus. On the first day, the teams will make a 10-minute oral presentation to the jury at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center. Then, they will try to physically detect the target locations determined by their developed algorithms.

Young Innovators to Shape 5G Technology Will Be Awarded
The winning teams will receive a total of 370,000 TL in prizes. The first prize is 150,000 TL, the second prize is 120,000 TL, and the third prize is 100,000 TL. In addition, two prestigious awards will be given in the categories of “Most Original Algorithm” and “Best Presentation.”

The finalists, aged between 19 and 29, will come from a wide geography ranging from Istanbul to Hatay, from Indonesia to Konya, laying the foundations of smart cities of the future, Internet of Things solutions, and location-based services with 5G technology. The 5G Positioning Contest will not only be a competitive environment but also serve as a technology laboratory full of real-world applications for the participants.
